He Turned 4

Jonathan, you are four.  I really can not believe how fast time seems to move these days.  I am blessed to be your mommy, and it is an absolute honor and privilege to watch you grow.  You are my firstborn; the sweet boy that I hoped and prayed about for many years.  And now you're four.  How did that happen?

The last few nights before your birthday, I snuggled you and prayed that you would stay three forever.  But you were insistent, saying, "I have to grow up!"  And when I mentioned that you were growing up too fast, you replied, "Nuh-uh! It took me a long time to do that!"  You were right, buddy, it did take you a long time to turn four.  But to Daddy and me, time is flying by.

You are absolutely, hands-down, the best big brother.  Ever.  You give Owen toys to play with (and sometimes "trade" with him when he has a toy that you'd prefer), you snuggle him, and just always seem to be looking out for him.

You love Jesus.  You talk frequently about being "batatized" someday (wearing goggles, of course).  The questions you ask about dying and Heaven are astounding for such a young boy.  And yet, you are filled with this innate curiosity that only God could have placed in your heart and mind.  Your knowledge of the Bible is great, but your love for God is even greater.  You have a huge heart for others, and don't like to hear that other children are not as fortunate as you.  When you got money for your birthday, you asked to go to the store and buy toys for little boys who didn't have any.  You are saddened by the fact that not every little boy and girl has a mommy and daddy.  And you absolutely can not wait to adopt your little sister because it hurts you that she might be sad without her mommy and daddy.  Really, you are just the sweetest, most compassionate little guy, and I can't get enough of you.

You are also a little comedian.  When you laugh, your face lights up and you cause everyone around you to join in.  You do random dance moves and tell silly jokes.  So full of life, and so joyful.
